Renowned Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi is set to take center stage at the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film, currently underway in Jordan's capital.

The festival's "First and Latest" section, showcasing seasoned filmmakers, will feature Farhadi on July 9, offering a glimpse into his cinematic evolution over the years.

Farhadi, known for his thought-provoking films that explore social issues, will guide viewers through his journey, sharing his experiences and the lessons he has learned throughout his career. He will also discuss the challenges he has faced and how they have contributed to his growth as a director.

Farhadi is one of Iran's most prominent cinematic voices. Born in Isfahan in 1972, he developed a passion for the arts from an early age, particularly cinema. He earned a bachelor's degree in dramatic arts from the University of Tehran in 1988 and later a master's degree in theatre direction.

Farhadi's international fame grew with his fourth film, "About Elly" in 2009, which won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. His subsequent films have received numerous awards and accolades, including two Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for "A Separation" in 2011 and "The Salesman" in 2016.

In 2021, Farhadi won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival for his film "A Hero", sharing the award with Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen's "Compartment No. 6".

The Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film aims to promote debut achievements in film from around the world, with a focus on Arab cinema. The festival will run until July 11.
